The Left

I used to believe in coalitions. I believed that by working through our differences we could come to common ground on issues and arrive at good policy. The Left have however over the years diminished my belief that coalitions can work and this is, I believe to a point, proven in a post-local elections article whine on the RESPECT website. The article of course attacks the Right and the election of Boris Johnson but they also turn their guns on their creator, Comrade Galloway.
I admit to not taking a lot, if any, interest in the internal workings of yet another Left wing organization. The only reason this particular group is known above any of the others is that Comrade Galloway managed, on a massive wave of anti-war sentiment, to sweep the Labour MP Oona King, out of office in the 2005 General Election.
The issue with the left is that they do something approximating the following ; they Unite (briefly), they bicker, they fall out and they throw their toys out of the pram (or the party/Union/coalition) and then they splinter and try to kill each other off (see Trotsky’s fate for proof) or just slag each other off through toilet paper rags such as “The Socialist Worker” or “The Guardian”.
It is genuinely astonishing to walk around University looking at all the different posters for different left leaning societies; Socialist Students Party, RESPECT, Revolution Party, PSG, Hands Off Venezuela, Lib Dems and Labour. It’s utterly ludicrous! Is it any wonder the left never get anywhere? In fact the only places the Left have managed to unite are places where a high number of the population have gone missing or just outright murdered for their opposition, that isn’t what I would class as a coalition in my book.
So a thankyou to the Left, you have managed to destroy something else, my belief in coalitions… Well alright, it wasn’t all the left’s fault, but they are largely to blame!

See the results of the second 1910 General Election to observe the horrific consequences of coalition government in this country. Beforehand however there is the happy coalition of the Conservative and Liberal Unionist parties which showed how it could work rather well.
