Going through my RSS reader this afternoon I came across a piece on Tim Irelands ‘Bloggerheads’ site. Ireland appears to have found that Iain Dale and Paul Staines aka Guido Fawkes have not so much been fiddling their numbers for hits on their sites but shall we say, distorting the truth by way of the English language.
Irelands charge is that the two bloggers have been giving their ‘Page View’ stats as their individual visitor counts. In plain English, they have been using the stats which show how many times the site has been visited with how people have visited the site. This means that Dale and Staines have been counting those who visit different articles on their sites or press refresh any number of times as several people, as opposed to the single person actually viewing the site.

Update – Iain has as you will see, in the comments, rebutted the allegations made by Tim Ireland. I think it only fair to give you the link Iain has provided for his Stats on this post, as I have also given a link to Tim Ireland’s post with the accusation (or whatever you want to call it). The link is http://iaindale.blogspot.com/2008/04/march-statporn.html
This is of course complete rubbish. Indeed, an outright lie. Ireland has an unfathomable obsession with me and Guido. He has written more than 250 blogposts about me in the last year. Click on this link and see if you think there is anything wrong with how I present my stats because I’m buggered if I can see it.

Ireland, however, gives no proof for his own traffic, merely contenting himself with insulting others.
