After having worked all day yesterday behind a bar, I got to go out and have a few pints with friends on Millennium Square last night. Having only been out forty-five minutes my patience went and I rounded on a good friend of mine who was exceptionally drunk and trying to give everyone the benefit of his wisdom. I was probably unfair about it as I was more or less stone cold sober in comparison, but after having put up with people drinking too much and mouthing off about how Gordon Brown, David Cameron and (in the words of a local man) that LibDem who stabbed Ming in the back, are all the same for the whole day, I had had quite enough.
I think the worst of the situation was actually that the people around me felt embarrassed about it, it did seem to come out of nowhere as my friend had been banging on in this vein before I had even arrived (according to reports). Isn’t that life though? It’s not the argument itself that causes issues but the things on the sidelines of it, the people watching and having to put up with it whilst it lasts. Fortunately I moved the whole thing over to the other side of the room and things cooled slightly. But still, I shouldn’t have put people through that and I fear that I ended up being more of a bore than my friend.
What really annoys me is that I was sat next to a very nice girl who I was on a date with on Monday, what she must have thought of this lumbering great idiot (myself) coming in and shouting at one of his best friends I do not know.
Update – My friend has now woken up and cannot remember anything which happened last night and perhaps justifiably has alcohol poisoning, but is this justice? I’m unsure, as alcohol poisoning is deeply unpleasant and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
